Message of Dr. Jose Maria Mariano to the PresCup Community

By UA&P Alumni

Dear PresCup Community,

Congratulations to the winners of Divisions 1 and 2 of this 14th season of the President’s Cup Basketball Tournament.

My thanks to all of you and to the organizers who have not only kept this tournament alive, but thriving for 15 years, in honor of the post I have occupied for the last 15 years.

It is fitting that these games are called the President’s Cup. It is a unique expression of school spirit, indeed a special manifestation of unitas, because faculty, staff, students, and alumni gather together in these games, not only to watch and cheer, but also to participate — faculty, staff, students, and alumni play together in the same team, pursue the same goal, learn from each other, enjoy a close camaraderie, and at the same time support our men’s basketball varsity team and our League of Red Dragons Scholarship Fund.

As most of you already know, this is the last time for me personally to exercise the privilege of handling the championship awards to the winning teams. But I shall forever cherish the honor of handing over to my successor this solid legacy that is the President’s Cup. And in whatever capacity I can, I shall continue to support it.
