The World We Give, The World They Receive

Dear Parents of Millennials,

This invitation is primarily addressed to

a) Parents of UA&P students and alumni who are still millennials;
b) UA&P faculty and staff with millennial children;
c) Alumni of all UA&P courses, probably of Generation X, with millennial children;
d) The friends of (a) to (c) above with millennial children.

Definitions may vary, but our operational definition of millennials (also called Generation Y) for this colloquium is anyone born between 1990 and 2000, that is those anywhere from 16 to 26 years of age.

The invitation is to a family colloquium on catching up with millennial children, their friends, and their world, our contribution to the jubilee countdown of the University of Asia and the Pacific. This is scheduled for Saturday, 12 November, from 8:00 a.m. (registration) to 4:00 p.m. (One for the Road mid-afternoon refreshments), at the Telengtan Hall of University of Asia and the Pacific. We paraphrase a portion of the project concept:

THE WORLD WE GIVE, THE WORLD THEY RECEIVE

The project aim is to bring parents, both UA&P alumni and employees with millennial children, and parents of UA&P students, as well as the millennials themselves, to a healthy dialogue on raising and understanding millennials from the lens of seeing the world, society, as a legacy passed on from one generation to another. This will be done through a one-day colloquium, featuring conversations with the audience led, respectively, by parents of a millennial, millennials, and teachers of millennials, to examine the issue from different perspectives. There will also be a 20-minute Compact Shakespeare performance of Hamlet to highlight the theme of one generation passing their world to the next generation as a legacy. Moderated forums will cap each set of activities as a means to share experiences and concerns related to the theme.

You may download he programme and the reply slip here. The fee is PHP 900 per individual registrant (early bird of PHP 700 on before 20 October), or PHP 1,400 per couple registrants (early bird of PHP 1,200 on or before 20 October). This is our first notice. While we shall follow you up, we do encourage you to contact Ms. Maricar Ledesma at 6370912 local 288 or email maricar.ledesma@uap.asia for your disposition.

Needless to say, we would like to strongly encourage you to join the colloquium and help generate a good profile of today’s millennials and come out with workable ways and modes of becoming their friends and confidants more and more as they go through the more challenging years. The urgent and significant need for this type of activity cannot be understated. Thank you, and warm personal regards from your friends from this institution now in countdown mode towards the jubilee celebration.

Sincerely yours,
